Every Zone, Purposefully Designed

The headquarters’s main lobby is designed to extend a warm welcome to the public and all visitors entering the Ministry of Culture HQ. This arrival experience is defined by a double-height atrium of commanding architectural presence. Overhead, a monumental coffered timber ceiling spans the full volume, while a large scale feature wall elegantly anchors the Ministry’s identity. Seamlessly bridging the traditional Najdi architectural shell with a refined contemporary interior language, the space features warm stone reception counters, curated artwork, and generous glazing looking out onto the courtyard creating an environment that is both deeply welcoming and grandly representative.

The open working floors stand as one of the project’s most architecturally distinctive environments. An intricate geometric timber ceiling structure directly referencing traditional Najdi craftsmanship spans the entire floor plate, seamlessly integrating advanced acoustic surfaces and linear lighting. Below, ergonomic workstation clusters equipped with acoustic screens and integrated cable management support operational efficiency across the Ministry’s departments. The result is a highly functional workspace that remains culturally rooted and visually memorable.

Positioned within the Executive Offices, the Executive Director Office seamlessly combines a formal working environment with a separate, informal meeting setting supporting both independent leadership tasks and strategic small group discussions. Full height timber wall panelling with subtle geometric relief and warm cove lighting define a space of institutional authority and understated elegance. Here, refined materiality and considered proportions converge to create an atmosphere perfectly tailored to focused leadership.

Designed as a key Collaborative Space, the Employee Lounge is conceived as a restorative counterpoint to the working environment a warm, layered space dedicated to informal gathering, reflection, and social exchange. A bespoke geometric patterned ceiling in warm timber tones creates an intimate atmosphere, complemented by subtle cove lighting that envelops the room in a soft amber glow. Carefully curated seating clusters in cream and terracotta tones, paired with a display credenza featuring greenery and selected objects, create an environment that feels both culturally grounded and genuinely inviting.

Conceived as a premium Amenity Space, the Kids Area provides a vibrant, safe, and stimulating environment for the youngest visitors to the headquarters. The space features a playful palette of warm sand tones punctuated by bold yellow seating sculptural, tactile pieces that invite movement and exploration. Open bookshelves stocked with books and curios, soft poufs, round activity tables, and a gentle staircase element offer varied settings for creative play and quiet reading. Arched openings and curved ceiling details elegantly echo the architectural language of the wider building, creating a space that is joyful in character yet deeply considered in its design.

Representing the pinnacle of Senior Leadership, the Vice & Assistant Minister Offices are designed as composed and authoritative environments. Neutral material palettes of stone, timber, and soft furnishings create a calm, sophisticated backdrop for both formal and informal engagement. Generous ceiling heights and a bespoke fabric ceiling—its pattern meticulously drawn from the geometric traditions of Najdi craft—lend each space a quiet cultural depth, reinforcing both the institutional character and the heritage setting of these offices.

Designed as versatile Collaborative Spaces, Multipurpose Rooms 1 & 2 are positioned adjacent to the open working floors to support a diverse spectrum of functions from formal presentations and training sessions to internal workshops and departmental gatherings. The spaces feature a sculptural, wave form acoustic ceiling with integrated cove lighting, warm tonal wall finishes, and versatile seating arrangements. A full height operable partition wall connects the two rooms, allowing them to operate independently or merge seamlessly into a single, expansive event space as operational requirements demand.

As Integrated Project and Design Management Consultant for the new Saudi Ministry of Culture Headquarters, BLΛCK guided this landmark project through every stage. We brought together executive spaces, collaborative areas, and lounge environments into a cohesive, flexible, and representative design language. By uniting rigorous project management with uncompromising design guardianship, we translated cultural prestige into functional, world-class environments shaped to the highest international benchmarks.

Serving as the crown jewel of the Ministerial Suite, the Minister Office represents the project’s highest expression of institutional interior design. A large scale illuminated display wall with bespoke joinery, customized sliding doors, and custom designed bookshelves paired with a coffered ceiling integrating concealed lighting creates a space of absolute distinction. Complete with a generous soft seating arrangement, the office functions simultaneously as a formal working environment, a reception suite for distinguished guests, and a powerful cultural statement, reflecting the Ministry’s leading role in shaping Saudi Arabia’s creative and heritage landscape.,

BLΛCK oversees the technical and operational development of the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2026. From general coordination to the production of exhibition scenography, the firm manages the complex infrastructure required for the creation and installation of over twenty-five new commissioned artworks.

Biennale represents more than just a major international exhibition. It is a project of urban and cultural activation that contributes to the metamorphosis of the JAX District, converting industrial spaces into one of the emerging hubs of Riyadh’s artistic scene. This intervention reinforces the city’s growing role within the global contemporary art ecosystem.

Drawing on years of experience at global Art Biennials, BLΛCK oversees every technical and logistical detail handling everything from exhibition layout to the complex operational support needed to bring new artworks to life.

Scenography and artworks production. With a total exhibition space of 28,500 sqm and a collection of 130 artworks, the BLΛCK team took charge of developing and delivering the scenography for the entire site, as well as overseeing the production of commissioned artworks. We ensured that the architecture, lighting, and art complemented each other perfectly. By carefully curating the delivery, BLΛCK enhanced the immersive quality of the exhibition, allowing visitors to fully engage with the diverse artistic formats on display.

BLΛCK’s role in venue enhancement included the development of four new buildings: a reception area, bookstore, bar, and restaurant. These additions not only provided essential services for visitors but also enriched the overall experience of the Biennale. Designed in collaboration with Giò Forma studio, the spaces were carefully integrated into the exhibition’s theme, ensuring they complemented the artistic and cultural elements on display. The Biennale Store was crafted to evoke a sense of tranquillity through soft-toned materials, fostering an environment for introspection. In contrast, the bar and restaurant offered a lively, dynamic atmosphere, reflecting the local heritage and providing a space for visitors to socialize and connect.

The new design of the King Fahad Cultural Centre reflects the ancient Salmani heritage while fully honouring the existing historical venue. Najdi’s existing decorative motifs are reinterpreted in a new, modern key that interconnects the past with the future. Colours and shapes, light and shadow contribute to the public’s experience of Saudi heritage in a contemporary way.

The existing elements, like the historical marble on the façade, were preserved and restored, alongside some new structural elements, such as enlarged staircases and new bridges for the VIP and Royal journey from the lounges to the main hall.

The design reinterpreted Najdi decorative motifs, giving rise to a full-height new central element that evokes the mountains of central KSA, covered with rammed earth clay. Beneath that, a system of spatial arches hosts the ticketing area, cafeteria and guest lounges, all featuring special acoustic plaster treatment.

We have completely re-engineered the scenic tower of KFCC, addressing both the upper and lower mechanisms. Specifically, we redesigned the grid structure by implementing the ‘Italian’ model, elevating the full theatre to a state-of-the-art venue.
The entire acoustic has been redesigned implementing also a fully immersive 3D sound system composed of more than 200 speakers. This type of setup allows us to modify the electroacoustic response in real-time, as well as manage sound sources within the space.

The main hall can host up to 2,800 guests, distributed between the parterre (which hosts a VIP dedicated area and 4 Royal Boxes with movable partitions), and the upper floor gallery. The entire finishing has been redone, starting with the wall cladding, which consists of massive, double-curved wooden elements, to the ceiling chandelier, a crafted metal baffle customized for the project. The seats are the result of a special partnership with Poltrona Frau, who created a new chair model for the occasion, called ‘King Fahad,’ covered with premium leather, walnut armrests, and featuring embedded translation screens.

At the ground and first floors, an area fully dedicated to VIPs and Royals has been completely reshaped introducing a strong design element, consisting of double curved slanted walls, covered with rammed earth clay to recall the traditional central Saudi construction methods. These walls create intimate lounge areas connected by a central open space and equipped with premium quality furniture and lighting.
